polling for interrupts

I’m writing the slides for the Xen talk I’ll be giving tomorrow at Haifux. For some reason, my heart is not in it. I noticed this when I realized that I’m constantly polling for interrupts – checking IRC, email, instant messages – anything to avoid writing these slides – including posting to livejournal šŸ˜‰

I think I’ll take a break and write some code.

Will you put the slides online? I am interested in Xen!

What I’m interested is in running Xen inside a regular Linux (using something like bochs). The reason I am is because Xen doesn’t support ACPI, and I want to play with it on my laptop šŸ™‚

bochs is deprecated (in the lightest sense of the word)… qemu is much better. it’s fast, potentially -really- fast (with the accelerator module), and has a lot of momentum behind it.
that said, i don’t really know what xen is or whether qemu will suit your purposes.

yep, qemu works fine, even without the accelerator module. I don’t load untrusted code into my kernel, ever.

That’s a very polite take on bochs.
I can vouch for qemu running fast on Intel platforms with the accelerator module. There is basically zero slowdown compared to the host system, provided you are only running one qemu virtual machine.
I’m kind of wierd so I tend to run dozens at a time.

First sources as in my slides are going to be based on the papers and slides published by the Cambridge folks, you can just go and read those šŸ˜‰
I’m running Xen inside qemu on my laptop for on-the-road hacking and on a test box at the office to keep me honest (if it doesn’t run on hardware it doesn’t count). Hopefully I’ll be able to run it soon on my *shiny* G5 šŸ™‚
