I spent most of the weekend working on the x86-64 DMA mapping ops patch and being sick, not necessarily in this order. The latest version of the patch (-K3) is available here. In a few minutes, once the automated tests will finish running, I’ll email it to Andi Kleen and lkml and ask for inclusion. I hope it doesn’t break anyone’s machines… and if it does, I hope it at least breaks then in new and interesting ways!

Proud an wondering
Hello,
As an Israeli I am both proud and wondering:
Proud that there is an Israeli that is contributing to the Linux Kernel;
wondering how can it be that in such a high-tech oriented country, in which
development in linux (also kernel) is not new, you
are the only one who contributed to the Linux kernel (and if I am wrong,
please forgive me ; I don’t know of any other name of an Israeli who sent a patch that was adpoted). Isn’t it strange ? maybe also Linus should pay
a visit here , after Bill went away , so that things will start moving?

There are many kernel hackers in Israel. Maybe I’m just more vocal then most 🙂
As for inviting Linus, I don’t think there’s much chance of him coming, but one can always try. We tried to invite Rusty Russell to the last August Penguin, but his wife vetoed the idea.

I try to compare Israel to the Czech Republic,for example, which have less then 1.5
population of israel (a little more than 10 million people).
If we take a look at the “Maintainers” file of the Linux

we will see:

On a second thought : maybe give “hamakor” prize in the next August Penguin to
an Israeli developer who will contibute a patch (that will be accepted)
to the Linux Kernel?

I don’t like narrowing the focus to just the kernel and just the Linux kernel. I am certainly in favor of a prize for most meaningful code contribution or some such.
