Resignation from Hamakor’s board of directors

Yesterday morning I resigned from the board of directors of Hamakor, for reasons which can be summed up as “it was taking up too much time and mental energy from things I’d rather do, such as write free software”.

I am still a member and a firm believer in Hamakor. It’s the overhead and responsibility of being a board member that I can’t afford.

  1. Overhead of Hamakor Director?
I mean it’s not like Kernel’s memory management where you’ve got a table to maintain…
But seriously, Hamakor is a very important organization – even though it seems to me it doesn’t have that much work to do. I mean I assume you’re not lobbying the governors every day for FSW support. I also assume you’re work is weekly – if not less frequent.
What’s the big deal – where are you getting all the work from?

The work has the most annoying capacity of growing to fill the time alloted to it. That means that if you’re like me, you never fill you are doing enough, regardless of how much time you have to spare (I don’t). That, in turn, can be quite disparaging.
Shachar and Gilad, the guys on the board who are doing all of the work, are putting a lot of time into it. I couldn’t, and therefore resigned, hopping that someone who can will replace me.
To see the work that Hamakor does, take a look at the not-entirely-up-to-date projects page.

        Argh!
Why is the site all in Hebrew? Does anyone who need to read the site
        actually not know Hebrew?
[Yes, I know it’s possible to configure Hebrew on my machine. I usually
find it easier to avoid Hebrew sites.]

I added an English page to point English speakers to about “what is Hamakor” some time ago, but maintaining a full dual-language site is far too much work. We barely find the time to maintain the Hebrew version.
It was decided that since Hamakor caters to more than us elitisit, English speaking bastards, the site (and mailing lists, a worse pain in one’s ass) should be in Hebrew.
