Around page 20 I took a break and washed the dishes; around page 40 I’ll take another break and put stuff where it belongs. No rest for the wicked.

You can tell when a project is REALLY bad when…
…you reward yourself at milestones by doing housework.
(hang in there)

Finished, by $DEITY!
It wasn’t that bad. I’ve had to read hundreds and hundreds of pages of technical specifications that were mind numbingly dull. By contrast, this document is popular fiction.

Hurrah!
…and the house is so clean, too… ::wink::
(I did that reward by houswork thing while typing backwards, which was a project that took six weeks and much of my sanity last March.)

Re: Hurrah!
Why would one wish to type backwards?

Large piles of pretty green dollars
It was an awful project. I almost lost my sanity.
It wasn’t actually typing: the software provided for the project involved doulbeclicking on Hebrew letters presented, ouija board fashion, beneath the text I was translating. By the end of the project, I was starting to dissociate and bits of me were talking to other bits. Without my permission, while other bits typed.
I was very glad to see the end of that project.

I sure hope the money was worth it, it sounds like a recipe for madness. Also, couldn’t it be automated somehow?

I wish it could have been automated…
…but since it could not, I just did my part of the job, to the loud sounds of music.
It was really one of the least creative parts of my career, this project was. Restful, in a way. 🙂

Seems that being on a conference and leaving you all alone cleans the house. Magic!

you forgot
the third ingredient – having nothing interesting to hack on. Had I been working on something interesting, you could have left the house and come back and seen me sitting in the same position in front of emacs that I was when you left. Oh, for something interesting to hack!
