I gave the first run of the “Intro to Linux Device Drivers” talk yesterday to the study group at work, and today to the students of the Technion’s CS faculty’s Operating Systems course. It went quite well yesterday, with lots of audience participation and excellent feedback afterwards. Today it didn’t go quite as well (much tougher crowd…), but I think the objectives were achieved and they have an idea of what writing a driver entails.
After the talk, I went to the office, feeling rather miserable. Had lunch and then gave up and went home, feeling like I’m about to hurl at any moment. Got home and climbed into bed with James Clavell’s Shogun.
It’s one AM now, and I have a backlog of work stuff to take care of before tomorrow. Let me just put on some music and let the fun begin. No more talks for me in the near future! It’s time to write some free software.

Code ratio
I had just skimmed through the lecture slides and was quite impressed.
On one hand, the slides are quite readable to be studied “offline”.
On the other hand, the ratio of code within the slides is pretty high. I guess I would really enjoy attending the lecture (which I would unless confronted with exam on economics at Monday). Less technical people, however, (well, I mean, way less technical people, or, in other words, suites) could feel lost in details.
Which brings me to the following question: how did your audience reacted to the code ratio?

That’s ok, it’s not a suite oriented talk 🙂 very technical is perfectly fine. If you can’t make it to Haifux when I give it (9/2/04, see http://www.haifux.org/future.html), I am likely to also give it at Telux, the Tel-Aviv Linux club.

Fairly well, I think. There were some questions, and not too many fell asleep, or left in the middle 🙂
