Muli Ben-Yehuda's journal

Why do I have a livejournal? I have a diary on advogato (http://www.advogato.org), and have had it for a long time. However, I don’t feel quite as comfortable with advogato as I used to, and there’s not enough sense of community. The purpose of this livejournal “blog” (I hate that word with a passion) is, quite simply, to allow me to be silly. To write about things that couldn’t possibly interest anyone except me, and to allow me to write spontaneusly. Also, being able to read various interesting journals through the ‘friends’ page is a killer feature.

“Blogger – someone who would rather write ‘I was there’ than actually be there”.

Why do you hate the word “blog”?

Ok, ok, I am guilty of blaming the symbol for what it stands for. I don’t like blogs (and bloggers) when they’re heralded as the new best things, the next revolution, the thing which will change the world, obsolete every other form of media, bla bla bla, as exemplified by Doc Searle’s blog. “blog” as an online diary I’m cool with. I guess I’m allergic to over-enthusiastic people (“mitlahavim”)

Well, blogs are wonderful, yet limited. It really depends on what you do with them, I guess. I got into blogging from the collaborative fiction angle, and so I came into blogging with one realization: I must entertain my readership. So, I actually try to stay in contact with my readership…check if they think there’s too much politics? Too much technical stuff? Too much Buffy fanfic? and adjust accordingly. I know most people don’t 🙂
