Fun friday evening last night. First we went to grandpa’s 73 birthday get together, , and then we visited yrk and his lovely wife Sarah at their place. Much fine conversation, excellent whiskey and wine were had. Alas, no pictures… we should do it again, yrk!

Friday Fun
Public Service Announcement
Hello, gentle readers of this blog. As you have probably noticed, for the last week this blog has mostly been about my training regime, which I’ve undertaken in the commendable effort to lose (a lot of) weight and become fit once again. This focus is unlikely to change in the near future, as I have a long road to go and writing here motivates me. If the daily PNS updates bore you to tears, please, feel free to remove me from your friends lists / rss aggregators / stone tablets. I won’t be offended, honestly.
This is not to say that I won’t continue blogging about my kernel work / life / work / school / stuff. But PNS happens every day; the rest – every so often.
Cheers, Muli
PNS day 6 in retrospect, today and next week forward looking
Day 6, yesterday, went quite well (better than I expected, anyway…). I did a three hour combind gym-walk-swim workout. First, Orna gave me a ride to the gym at work, where I started with 30 minutes of cross trainer, followed by the usual bunch of weights and abs (elaborated upon below). After I finished the gym workout, I walked 5 kms to the pool, picking up Orna at home along the way. At the pool I swam 1 km (200m-200m-200m-400m) (Orna swam 1.5 *envy*), and then we walked back home. By the time we got home, I was dead on my feet. We cooked lunch, watched the first chapter of the Season I DVD of the Sopranos, and then blessed sleep…
Day 7, today, is dedicated to recuperating. No strenuous exercise of any kind, except possibly the homely kinds.
Day 8, tomorrow, will be gym in the morning. It will also be the day of the official weekly weighing, which I’m somewhat dreading. So far I’ve lost 4.7 kgs since starting, 1.7 of which are from last week. Looking at it that way… that’s not too bad at all! I just need to keep things in check today – weekends are always the hardest days to eat right.
The plans for next week are gym on Sunday and Monday, and then Tuesday-Thursday I’m going to be on reserve duty again. Optimally, I’ll do pool or gym in the morning, and then the other in the evening, but that’s highly unlikely to happen due to scheduling constraints. I’ll just have to do my best. Food is another thorny issue, as army food … leaves something to be desired in the nutritious dept. Possible solutions are bringing food from home (not convenient logistically) or going for long lunches in Herzliya (most likely solution).

Days 5, 6 of PNS training
Day 5:
Excellent workout in the evening! 30 minutes cross trainer that left me soaking with sweat and then weights and abs. Food intake was reasonable too, with a huge salad and some pasta for dinner
Day 6:
Heading for the gym in a few minutes, for 30 minutes cross trainer, weights and abs as usual. Then 5 kilometers walk to the pool. Then the pool. Then I’ll drag myself home, lie on the floor and go “hmmmmmmmmmm”. I think it’s going to be fun!

Yesterday Orna and I had ourselves a lovely one day vacation. In the morning we went to the swimming pool (PNS training or no PNS training?), then lunch at Pasto, a trip to the national maritime museum, to see maritime artwork (ship in a bottole, rope knots, seamen’s tatoos) and Kill Bill Vol. II. In the evening we went grocery shopping (not part of the vacation plans, but had to be done…) and then dropped dead tired. I had a great time!
Today it’s back to work… I am so not motivated to do anything right now. I think I’ll work on one of my pet projects for a while, rather than anything I am actually “supposed” to do. Right after this meeting I have now, of course.

Days 3 & 4 of PNS training
Day 3 went by ok, except I had a couple of sandwiches for breakfast at work that did not sit quite well with me. Lunch was reasonable, and dinner was a couple of sandwiches again. Not good. Need to go grocery shopping ASAP. There was no exercise on day 3, since we planned to go to the pool in the evening but it was too cold.
Day 4 is today. We’re on vacation today, heading to the pool just as soon as I hit send on this entry. In the evening I will go to the gym. Must take special care today with food intake, as we’re probably “restaurant bound”.
Reading the Hacker’s Diet again, for inspiration.

Haifux: orrd on trusted computing
Its been a long day at work today. Around 6 pm, I stopped by the
Technion for this week’s Haifux
meeting, where Orr
gave a talk on Trusted Computing. The talk was quite interesting, but
unfortunately I had to leave in the middle and return to the office for yet another trans-atlantic design review. I look forward to next month when Orr will give the talk again, this time at HRL.
Pictures
are available here. Not too many, as I’ve had to leave in the
middle and my batteries ran out. Next time…
From the alcoholic beverages dept., yrk was also there and brought me some
heavenly-smelling ardberg
to taste. Thanks, yrk!
Day 2 of PNS training. Good morning workout, good intensity, especially in the abs dept. By the time I hit the showers, I was ready hurl.
I think I need to continue with current 30 mins aerobics, 1 rep x 80% effort for each major muscle group and abs for at least 2.5 weeks, and then I can add a bit of jogging.

I2C for the uninitiated
I may have to do a bit of I2C work soon. Here’s a good introduction.
Day 1 of PNS training
Day one of PNS[0] training going well so far, with an excellent morning workout (30 minutes cross training and then the usual strength workout). Now I just need to watch my nutrient intake all day. Wish me luck!
The plan for tomorrow is a morning workout again, and then hit the pool on Tuesday with the luscious ladypine.
